Amadeus Max for Travelers brings conversational, real-time support across airline touchpoints.

Your flight time has moved. You need to change it. It is 11pm.

Anyone who travels regularly knows the next part. You open the app and hunt for the right screen. You give up and call and wait. When someone finally answers, you explain the situation and hope the airline can quickly find an option that works.

The problem is not that airlines lack channels. Most have a website, an app, a call center, and sometimes a chat window. The challenge is delivering immediate, consistent support wherever the traveler chooses to ask for help.

Amadeus Max for Travelers is built to meet that challenge. It helps airlines provide intelligent, conversational, real-time support across touchpoints. The result is a more consistent and tailored experience throughout the traveler journey.

What it is

Amadeus Max for Travelers is an agentic commerce solution with a vision to support travelers at every stage of their journey. Today, it focuses on three key areas: booking, voluntary rebooking, and disruption management.

The first available use case is voluntary rebooking: changing the date or time of a flight. It addresses a common traveler need and provides a practical starting point. Further capabilities, including conversational booking and recovery, are to follow.

Available first for Altéa and Nevio customers, the solution can be integrated through voice and text across call centers, mobile apps, and web. It can support multiple languages, while ensuring that every action it takes stays inside the airline's own policies.

How it works

The Amadeus Max for Travelers solution brings together three connected layers:

  • The first layer is the traveler-facing agent. This is what the traveler sees and talks to. It adapts the conversation to the touchpoint, whether that is a website, a mobile app, or a phone call. This traveler-facing agent may be provided by the airline or a third party, or built and customized by Amadeus Professional Services.
  • The second layer provides agent-to-agent connectivity, travel-specific orchestration, and specialized AI agents natively embedded within the Amadeus ecosystem. These specialized agents interpret what a traveler's request involves in an airline environment.
  • Existing airline and Amadeus systems form the third layer, continuing to manage the business rules, data, and transaction capabilities needed to complete the process.

Agent-to-agent communication is what joins the first layer to the second. It matters more than it sounds. It means the conversational agent a traveler is speaking to does not need to be rebuilt to understand airline retailing. It interprets the traveler's request, asks the relevant travel-specific agent for support, and acts on the response.

Why separating the conversation from the execution matters

A conversational agent that can talk fluently about travel but cannot change a booking is a better-worded dead end. The traveler still ends up calling.

The difficulty in travel is not producing a fluent reply. It is executing the action correctly behind it, against live inventory, fare rules, the airline's own servicing policies, and the systems of record that hold the booking. That is domain work, and it is where a general-purpose assistant runs out of road.

So the split is deliberate. A website interaction is different from a phone conversation, but both rely on the same travel-specific logic behind them. The traveler-facing layer handles the conversation, the channel, and the brand experience. Behind every touchpoint, Amadeus Max for Travelers handles the travel logic and execution capabilities. Airlines get to choose their front end without giving up the ability to act on what the traveler asks for.

What it changes

For the traveler, the difference is immediate, context-aware assistance across touchpoints supported by the airline, including web, mobile, and call centers, ensuring a consistent and personalized experience throughout the journey. The airline can choose to offer it in the traveler's preferred language, via voice and text. Eligible options are checked against the airline's policies before they are offered. When human intervention is needed, the request is handed over to a human agent.

For the airline, automating high-volume servicing tasks with 24/7 availability can reduce human agent workload and operational costs at scale. That leaves human agents for the conversations that genuinely need a person.

How airlines can adopt it

The solution is modular, so airlines choose the approach that fits. Amadeus Max for Travelers can be integrated with a traveler-facing layer an airline already has, or Amadeus Professional Services can provide tailored integration, traveler-facing agent development, and customization. Either way, the airline owns the experience.

Agentic AI in travel has reached the stage where the interesting question is no longer whether an agent can hold a conversation. It plainly can. The question is whether it can reliably support actions, inside the airline's own policies, on a live booking, at three in the morning.

That is what specialized agents are for: connecting traveler intent with the travel-specific logic and systems needed to complete eligible actions. The journey starts with focused use cases such as voluntary rebooking. The vision is to extend that same intelligent, consistent support throughout the traveler journey.
