WAT2 – WATER MONITORING – MAX. 1 CREDIT
OBJECTIVE – To ensure monitoring and management of water consumption and thereby encourage its reduction.
Assessment criteria:
- Specification of a water meter on the water supply network of each building.
- Water-consuming installations or areas of the building accounting for 10% or more of the total water demand of the building are fitted with easily accessible sub-meters.
- Each meter has a pulse communication output or another open protocol to allow connection to a building management system (BMS).

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
Connectivity with BMS**
Ranges of wiring devices and installation materials*
KNX building automation***
ABB SMART BUILDINGS SOLUTIONS
(*) Products are equipped with digital inputs that can collect water consumption via pulses (M4M meters, InSite, EQ). In addition, InSite can also collect water consumption via Modbus in the case of third-party Modbus communication devices. (**) This is possible with the corresponding meter. (***) Water metering could be a variable for a controller, but this is not normally a category considered as part of a BEMS control system.
WAT3 – WATER LEAK DETECTION – MAX. 3 CREDITS
OBJECTIVE – To reduce the impact of water leaks that could otherwise go undetected.
Assessment criteria:
- A permanent automated water leak detection system that alerts building occupants of the leak.
- Activated when the water flow passing through the water meter or data logger exceeds a pre-set maximum for a pre-set period of time.
- Programmable to adapt to the water consumption criteria of the owner or occupants.
