BREEAM Health & Wellbeing (HEA) Credits | ABB

Earn BREEAM credits in Health & Wellbeing (HEA1 Visual Comfort, HEA2 Indoor Air Quality, HEA4 Thermal Comfort) with ABB KNX, BMS & HVAC controls.

HEA1 – VISUAL COMFORT – MAX. 4 CREDITS

OBJECTIVE – To ensure that daylighting, artificial lighting and occupant controls are considered at design stage to deliver best practice visual performance and comfort for building occupants.

Disabling glare through building layout and/or design:

  • Provision of shading systems with possibility to control

Shading control for all ‘relevant building areas’:

  • Areas where lighting and resultant glare could be problematic for users
  • Workstations, projector screens

Internal lighting is zoned to allow for occupant control

Ranges of wiring devices and installation materials***

KNX building automation

ABB SMART BUILDINGS SOLUTIONS

(*) Applicable to switchable installations (not purely for monitoring or other purposes). All metering devices (except CMS and EV meters) have digital outputs that can act to control an on/off switch. Control can be carried out via timers (AG timers, DBT timers) and via twilight switches (TL line). Regulation is not possible.

(**) The FusionAir room sensor provides a user interface for lighting control; the strategies of the Cylon series controllers may include the management of lighting schedules.

(***) Millennium dimmers are manually operated and do not take external factors into account.

HEA2 – INDOOR AIR QUALITY – MAX. 5 CREDITS

OBJECTIVE – To recognise and encourage a healthy internal environment through specification and installation of appropriate ventilation, equipment and finishes.

Assessment criteria:

Ventilation

  • Good practice guide for ventilation
  • Sufficient distance between air intake and air exhaust
  • CO₂ or indoor air quality sensors

Natural ventilation strategy

ABB SMART BUILDINGS SOLUTIONS

(*) Control of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, energy efficiency

(**) The controllers, associated strategies and associated FusionAir sensors are designed to include ventilation / IAQ control

(***) Millennium KNX thermostats: control ventilation via HVAC

(****) Fan Coil controller, Fan actuator and HVAC controllers likewise

HEA4 – THERMAL COMFORT – MAX. 3 CREDITS

OBJECTIVE – To ensure that appropriate levels of thermal comfort are achieved through design and suitable controls are selected to maintain a thermally comfortable environment for occupants.

Assessment criteria:

  • Thermal zoning and controls
  • Zones within the building and how building services can heat or cool these zones efficiently and appropriately
  • Occupant control is required for these zones
