Perplexity pioneered the first web-capable AI assistant in July 2025 in the Comet browser. It was useful for booking restaurants, shopping, and dozens of uses popular with personal agents today.
Since then, model capabilities have advanced dramatically. And Perplexity Computer is where millions of people and companies do serious work with accurate AI. Personal agents need to be purpose-built for work.
Today, we’re launching teammates, personal agents that can take on that long-running work. They plan and coordinate projects, switch gears as priorities change, and present results for review. Users can inspect and guide their work along the way.
Computer can handle complex projects, but setting up an agent to own ongoing work required planning. Teammates build on the power of Computer, and work inside Computer with all of your tools and files.
A teammate coordinates Computer sessions and other teammates to keep projects moving. They remember and learn as they work across different workstreams like marketing, sales, support, operations, or finance.
Ongoing project ownership
Teammates represent a new way of working with AI. Users can delegate ongoing actions to teammates so people can focus on outcomes rather than coordinating every task. Built on Perplexity’s focus on accuracy and Computer’s multi-model capabilities, teammates plan the work, check results along the way, and bring completed work back for review.
Teammates can investigate issues, research a market, or test improvements to a product, among other tasks. They remember project goals, task history, and shared files across runs. Each new task a teammate takes on builds on the work already done.
Proactive monitoring and follow-through
Teammates monitor ongoing work and follow up as things change. They investigate and act without waiting for a fresh query.
For example, a sales teammate notices when a regular customer stops transacting. The teammate reviews their order history and support issues and investigates what changed.
Then, it creates an offer relevant to that customer or flags any issues to resolve before reaching out. It shares progress updates and approval requests until it completes the work.
Teammates also remember past work and apply feedback to future tasks. If a user tells an operations teammate an agency needs two weeks’ notice, it factors that lead time into future project schedules.
Shared direction across teams
Teammates can work across teams. Add a teammate to a Slack channel and colleagues can hand it work or ask for updates on a task.
Teammates can also pass work to each other. One teammate finds bugs on a website and passes its findings along to another to prepare fixes.
Coordination across tools and tasks
Teammates build on the Projects, skills, and memory already available in Computer. For example, a sales teammate can use a Project’s existing account research and sales goals, follow a skill for writing outreach, and run a weekly automation to review the pipeline.
It brings those pieces together to identify stalled conversations, prepare follow-ups for review, and apply the results to the next week’s work.
Isolated environments and access controls
Teammates build on Computer’s existing tool and Project permissions. Each teammate runs in a separate environment, with browser sessions separate from other teammates.
Saved credentials are encrypted and entered securely. Users can review completed work, take over the desktop, or redirect a teammate as it works.
Workflows across the business
Teammates handle ongoing work across business functions. These examples show how monitoring, investigation, and follow-through work together:
- Marketing: A marketing teammate manages social posts, email campaigns, ads, search engine optimization, and review notes, creating new ads based on what’s working. It monitors campaign performance and competitors’ promotions, drafts fixes when results slip, and suggests responses when competitors’ change prices.
- Sales: A sales teammate finds opportunities in customer inquiries, past purchases, and unfinished conversations. It prepares outreach and quotes, follows up on replies, and flags support issues that need to be resolved before reaching out.
- Customer support: A customer support teammate reviews the previous day’s complaints, summarizes trends, and flags cases that need a personal response from the CEO. It drafts those responses, follows up with internal teams on fixes, and tracks each case through resolution.
- Operations: A teammate keeps project deadlines, checklists, vendors, and paperwork on track. It follows up on missing items when a deadline is 72 hours away, helping teams address gaps before work falls behind.
Setup and availability
Teammates are initially launching on the web and soon on iOS for Perplexity Max subscribers. Free and Pro
To create and configure a teammate:
- Sign in to Perplexity on the web and select Teammates in the left navigation.
- Give the teammate a name that reflects the project you want it to do, then follow the setup steps.
- Connect the tools it needs. Add plugins such as Slack, GitHub, or Gmail. For GitHub, choose which repositories the teammate can access.
- Describe the work it should own. Include where the work comes from, what it should deliver, and when it should act.
- Assign it to a project and give it an initial task, such as researching a market, improving a signup flow, or investigating bugs.
We’ll be expanding teammates’ access and features in the coming weeks.
