Operating enterprise observability across complex hybrid infrastructure, Kubernetes clusters, and multi-cloud environments presents significant operational overhead. SREs and platform engineering teams routinely spend dozens of hours every week manually deploying agents, resolving configuration drift, and troubleshooting unmonitored blind spots across thousands of host instances. Simultaneously, unoptimized telemetry streams flood ingestion pipelines with high-volume, low-value data, driving up cloud costs without improving incident response.
New Relic Control addresses these challenges with an intelligent observability control plane that unifies agent lifecycle management, remote orchestration, and in-flight telemetry pipeline optimization into a single pane of glass. Building on our existing Kubernetes capabilities, today we're announcing that Linux and Windows host-based fleets are now generally available for New Relic Control.
Unify Agents, Automate Fleets, and Cut Telemetry Costs with New Relic Control
Platform engineering teams can standardize observability across their organization, reduce operational overhead, and control data costs from a single place with New Relic Control:
- One Control Plane: Manage supported agents and integrations from a unified view to eliminate tool silos.
- Intelligent Fleet Management: Automate agent deployment, upgrades, and configuration at scale across hybrid environments, including Linux and Windows hosts.
- Telemetry Optimization: Filter, sample, and transform data in-flight before ingest to maximize value and reduce cloud spend.
Eliminate fragmented instrumentation and agent sprawl
Historically, managing observability tools across distributed compute estates has required stitching together disconnected scripts, manual ticket workflows, and disparate point solutions. Platform teams often lack visibility into which agent versions are installed, whether configurations adhere to security policies, or if critical workloads remain unmonitored. When an incident occurs, uncoordinated agent updates and configuration drift increase mean time to resolution (MTTR).
New Relic Control replaces fragmented administration with a unified architecture comprising three core components:
- Fleet Control: Provides centralized fleet management and automated rollout controls across hybrid host and Kubernetes environments
- Agent Control: Delivers remote agent orchestration, health monitoring, and lifecycle management powered by an Open Agent Management Protocol (OpAMP) architecture
- Pipeline Control: Enables programmable in-flight telemetry data filtering, sampling, and transformation
Centralize fleet management and automate agent lifecycles
With Fleet Control, platform engineers and SREs define managed entity fleets and enforce standardized configuration manifests across thousands of endpoints. Instead of manually SSHing into individual hosts or updating deployment scripts, teams can execute fleet-wide agent upgrades and configuration rollouts using automated release channels and canary deployment patterns.
Key capabilities include:
- Automated fleet rollouts: Remotely deploy agent updates to every host or cluster in a fleet with a few clicks, using designated release channels (such as stable or beta) and step-by-step rollout verification.
- Delegated team management: Use fine-grained access to give teams control of their own fleets to update instrumentation settings safely within pre-approved governance boundaries.
- Agent version intelligence and on-host integrations: See release notes, security fixes, and breaking changes for each agent version right where you create the deployment, and manage popular integrations like Flex, Apache, and MySQL on Linux and Windows.
Optimize in-flight telemetry and reduce cloud spend
Uncontrolled data volume growth remains a primary challenge for FinOps and platform leads. Pipeline Control empowers teams to filter, transform, and sample telemetry streams in flight before ingestion.
Through Pipeline Control Gateway (PCG), organizations can deploy local pipeline processors within their own networks to:
- Drop low-value debug logs and redundant metric data pre-ingest to reduce storage overhead and egress costs
- Redact sensitive information, such as PII or access tokens, to help support security and compliance requirements
- Enrich incoming telemetry with custom tags and business metadata for enhanced query context
- Sample high-volume logs and events, such as keeping every error while sampling routine success cases
Enterprise governance and OpenTelemetry compatibility
New Relic Control is built on an extensible supervisor architecture designed around the Open Agent Management Protocol (OpAMP) standard. Agent Control manages New Relic agents, the New Relic Distribution of OpenTelemetry (NRDOT) collector, and standards-based agents such as Prometheus and Fluent Bit, and new agent types can be added over time.
Furthermore, Fleet Control uses fine-grained access (FGA) controls to scope who can manage which fleets, and configuration approval workflows give security and compliance teams a review step with comprehensive audit logging for every configuration edit and fleet deployment.
