For most of the internet's history, building a really good website meant getting help from someone who'd trained for it. Your options were to hire a skilled designer, learn web design yourself, or accept a website that looked like what it was: a template, filled in.

AI changed what was possible almost overnight. Suddenly a business owner with no design background could generate a website, a product photo, a whole visual identity, in minutes instead of months. But speed alone doesn't get a business from zero to a polished, on-brand site that's also optimized to bring in customers. Faster tools that generate the same generic result as every other tool don’t give a business owner something to stand on. They give everyone the same starting line.

Squarespace has spent more than 20 years building the opposite premise: that good website design takes craft, and that craft, not just speed, is what makes a business look like it’s worth trusting. That’s the standard behind every AI tool Squarespace offers. Blueprint AI, Image Studio, and AI Visibility are built to make your unique ideas a reality, using two decades of design expertise as the foundation instead of a generic model with no point of view.

Here’s what’s live today, what each tool solves, and how they work together to get your website—and your business—noticed.

  • Turn a description of your business into a working, multi-page website with Blueprint AI.
  • Generate new images, improve existing ones, and build cohesive story sets with Image Studio.
  • See how AI search engines interpret your business and where the gaps are with AI Visibility.
  • Every tool is built on Squarespace’s Design Intelligence, with more than 20 years of professional design expertise applied to each result.

Build a website from an idea: Blueprint AI

Beginning your website can be the hardest part, especially as your choices have implications far beyond good looks. A study in the Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing found that a site's visual design can affect how visitors judge its quality and trustworthiness. That judgment carries directly into visitor behavior: whether someone makes a purchase, or comes back at all.

Our own research backs this up. When we surveyed service businesses who use Squarespace, 82% agreed that clients increasingly expect a clear and professional online experience before committing to a purchase. Blueprint AI is built to close that distance between having an idea and having a site that meets that bar.

Start with what you already know. Describe your business, project, or passion, including details like your brand's personality, colors, fonts, or other points of reference. Blueprint AI turns that into a personalized, multi-page website with copy and imagery already in place. If your initial prompt doesn't cover everything, Blueprint AI asks follow-up questions to guide your design into a direction that fits what you need. A photographer might want a streamlined, editorial portfolio, while a community organization might need something visually clear with one strong call to action.

Blueprint AI renders the full site right away, not just a homepage, so you start with something to react to and refine instead of an empty page. But you control every pixel, and adjustments are manual, so you won't burn through AI credits. Rewrite the copy, replace an image, adjust the layout, or change the colors and fonts. You decide when it's ready to publish.

Create your visual identity: Image Studio

The right imagery can shape how an entire website feels. They make a product desirable or a service tangible, and the data supports this. When it comes to making a purchase, 90% of Etsy shoppers say the quality of images are “extremely important” or “very important.”

Images are usually the first thing a shopper looks at, too. A Baymard Institute’s data study shows that 56% of shoppers arrive on a product details page and immediately dive into the images. The cost of getting this wrong shows up in the same research: Baymard found that 25% of e-commerce sites suffered from poor resolution that contributed to product abandonment.

Despite their importance, sourcing the right imagery can be a huge hurdle. Stock photography can feel generic. Photoshoots can be pricey or impractical. And images gathered from different sources may look fine on their own but disjointed when placed together.

Image Studio brings your site’s imagery into focus. Generate new images for a product listing, image block, gallery, banner, or another part of your site. Reshoot an existing image with professional studio effects, giving it a more finished look, or create sets of images that share a consistent mood and aesthetic, making your whole site feel cohesive. You can do all of this without leaving the Squarespace platform.

Best of all, Squarespace’s professional art direction is built into the experience. Prompt the tool with your vision, and Image Studio will deliver tailored results.

Understand how people are finding you: AI Visibility

After completing these steps, you’ll have a polished, professional website. But that site can only be successful if users find it. Before, that meant leveraging SEO and tracking how your site appears in traditional search. Today, that’s shifting in record speed toward AI-powered search that delivers recommendations, comparisons, and direct answers.

According to a McKinsey report, 50% of consumers use AI search now. And that same report is forecasting that $750 billion of consumer spending will flow through AI search by 2028.

AI search is becoming mission critical for small businesses. Two-thirds of the businesses we surveyed rated it as “very or extremely important” for the future. Despite that, nearly six in ten small businesses we surveyed agreed with the statement, “I don’t know where to start with AI search optimization for my business.”

When we consulted with SEO expert Khara Wolf, she offered an easy starting point. “The first step to improving how you appear in AI search is understanding how AI search engines currently interpret your business,” she said. “You can do this natively in Squarespace with the built-in AI Visibility tool, which shares a personalized report, identifies the gaps, and makes recommendations.”

AI Visibility’s insights can identify gaps, strengthen the content on your site, and empower you to take control of how you show up online.

More possibility, with you in control

AI is making it possible to move from an idea to a visible result faster than before. But a website represents your work, business, perspective, or purpose. It shouldn’t feel generic, and it shouldn’t shoehorn you into the first result.

Squarespace’s AI tools can give you a meaningful place to start, offer direction when you need it, and create things that once required more time or technical knowledge.

You still make the decisions. You can review every result, change every detail, and publish only when it feels right. The way we build websites may be changing, but our standards are the same: a site that feels considered, cohesive, and yours.
