MetaMask, Phantom, and Rabby are self-custodial crypto wallets that differ by network coverage, trading features, security protections, and crypto card availability. MetaMask supports the most networks, with over 700+ available natively and the widest range of trading features, including perpetual futures, prediction markets, and tokenized assets, with a native crypto debit card. Phantom is primarily built around Solana, with a focus on trading features. Rabby covers EVM networks only, and is built around transaction safety and efficiency rather than breadth. This guide compares all 3 wallets.

Comparing wallet features and common use cases: MetaMask, Phantom, and Rabby
MetaMask is a multinetwork crypto wallet, available on mobile and desktop, that natively supports millions of digital assets across 700+ networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, TRON, Sei, Monad, Arc, Robinhood Chain, and EVM. Beyond MetaMask Swaps, its trading features include MetaMask perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid (up to 50x leverage on 270+ assets), 1,000s of prediction markets powered by Polymarket, and 400+ Ondo tokenized assets. Its debit card, MetaMask Card, runs on the Mastercard network and is accepted at 150M+ merchants worldwide. Money Accountis a single balance that earns up to 6% APY automatically while a user trades, sends, and spends. MetaMask Security features include Romance and investment detection, Red Pill attack prevention on Ethereum and EVM apps, Transaction Protection, Smart Transactions, MEV and frontrunning protection, LavaMoat supply chain attack prevention, real-time phishing protection in partnership with ChainPatrol—including malicious address and site takedown, and Transaction Shield—a paid subscription that covers up to $10,000 a month in asset losses on eligible transactions. MetaMask also supports native liquid, pooled, and validator ETH staking.
Phantom originally launched as a Solana-only wallet and now supports 7 additional networks: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, HyperEVM, Robinhood Chain, and Arc. It offers perpetual futures, prediction markets, tokenized equities, and the Phantom Cash card, a US-only, virtual-only prepaid Visa debit card.
Rabby is an EVM-only wallet supporting Ethereum and other major EVM networks, built around transaction safety through open-source code and a built-in security engine that checks transactions before signing. It supports spot swaps, bridging, and perps via Hyperliquid, but has no native staking, prediction markets, tokenized assets, crypto card, or native earning.

MetaMask supports Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, and 700+ networks across roughly 190 countries. Multichain Accounts, shipped in Mobile v7.57 and Extension v13.5, derive an EVM, Solana, and Bitcoin address for every account from a single Secret Recovery Phrase.
Phantom supports Solana plus 7 other networks, and is in flux: Monad support ended August 26, 2026, and Sui support ended September 24, 2026. Phantom does not allow custom networks at all, so anything outside these 8 network is unreachable.
Rabby doesn't support Solana, Bitcoin, or any other non-EVM network; it's EVM-only. It also reserves the right to drop networks from its integrated list—a dropped network's assets stay in the wallet, Rabby says, but won't count toward the total balance shown.
Where are MetaMask, Phantom, and Rabby available?
Geographic restrictions track the product, not the wallet.
MetaMask Swaps are available in 150+ countries, blocked only in countries on the US sanctions list. Perpetual futures, powered by Hyperliquid, are available in 150+ countries, excluding the US, UK, Ontario (Canada), Belgium, and countries on the US sanctions list. Tokenized assets, powered by Ondo, are available in 140+ countries, excluding the EEA, UK, US, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Prediction markets, powered by Polymarket, are available in 150+ countries across Latin America, Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe, and currently blocked in 39 countries. Money Account is available in 150+ countries, excluding the UK and countries on the US sanctions list. MetaMask Card operates in 45 countries, including the US and UK, and is accepted anywhere. Buying and selling crypto for fiat varies further still, since it depends on which payment providers operate where a user is.
Phantom's regional limits fall across four products: its card, perpetual futures, tokenized equities, and prediction markets. Phantom Cash works in the US only (not New York), mobile app only, no browser extension. The card is a virtual-only prepaid Visa issued by Lead Bank, and KYC through Link is required to fund it from a bank. Perpetual futures are available worldwide except the US, UK, and regions under comprehensive US economic sanctions. Tokenized equities, via xStocks and Ondo, are available worldwide except France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and sanctioned regions. Prediction markets are available in select regions and restricted in areas under comprehensive US sanctions, mobile app only.
Rabby's EVM swaps work in any non-sanctioned country. It has no card, no tokenized assets, and no prediction markets anywhere, so there's no regional breakdown to give for those three products. Its Hyperliquid-powered perpetual futures are available globally except in the US, Ontario, Belgium, and sanctioned territories—the same restriction set MetaMask applies on its own perpetual futures product.

Rabby
Rule-based engine; rules are inspectable and can be switched off; some risks are hard blocks

SlowMist and Least Authority; latest SlowMist report dated August 24, 2026
Sources: MetaMask Added Protection, Transaction Shield, Security audits; Phantom security; Rabby security engine and audits. As of September 2026.
Transaction simulation: All 3 wallets show a preview before signing, but their enforcement varies. MetaMask displays estimated balance changes by default on mobile and desktop, with automatic reversal of a mismatched transaction—Added Protection—is currently limited to Ethereum and EVM apps on MetaMask Extension. Phantom simulates transactions before signing and flags tokens with freeze authority. Rabby runs every transaction through a rule-based engine with inspectable, toggleable rules, and hard-blocks some risks outright rather than just flagging them.
Threat detection: MetaMask runs the broadest layered security stack with Transaction Alerts powered by Blockaid (on by default), Address Poisoning Detection, Red Pill attack prevention on Ethereum and EVM apps, and LavaMoat supply chain protection, and an open source real-time blocklist in partnership with Chain Patrol. Phantom's detection centers on scam address flagging and an open-source phishing blocklist. Rabby's detection is narrower but targeted at a specific, common attack vector: it parses EIP-712 permit signatures as approvals and supports batch Permit2 revocation.
Audits and bug bounties: all three wallets have been independently reviewed. MetaMask has the most auditors on record—Cure53, Least Authority, Consensys Diligence, and OtterSec—plus a HackerOne bug bounty program. Phantom has published audits and a bug bounty up to $50,000. Rabby has been audited annually since 2021 by SlowMist and Least Authority.
Direct loss protection: Only MetaMask offers this protection, via Transaction Shield, a paid subscription at $9.99 a month or $99 a year, reimburses up to $10,000 a month in eligible asset losses, excluding leaked Secret Recovery Phrases, speculative losses, and protocol exploits. Phantom and Rabby offer no equivalent backstop—with either wallet, avoiding the mistake is the only protection there is.
How does each wallet handle account recovery?
App
Recovery methods
Social login
MetaMask
Secret Recovery Phrase; social login (SRP kept as ciphertext via threshold OPRF and Shamir, unlocked by provider token plus password)
Google, Apple, Telegram
Phantom
Secret Recovery Phrase; Google or Apple account with an optional 4-digit PIN (7 wrong attempts wipe the on-device backup)
Google, Apple
Rabby
Secret Recovery Phrase; Private Key import; hardware; watch-only
None
Sources: MetaMask social login and smart accounts; Phantom social login; Rabby keyring types. As of September 2026.
MetaMask's social login keeps recovery self-custodial: the Secret Recovery Phrase is split with Shamir Secret Sharing, stored as ciphertext, and unlocked only by a provider token plus a password. Phantom optimizes for fast onboarding—a wallet from a Google or Apple account, protected by an optional PIN—though it caps users at one active wallet per account. Rabby skips social login entirely, relying on a Secret Recovery Phrase, Private Key, hardware wallet, or watch-only account. Whichever method a wallet uses, the phrase itself stays secure only offline and unshared.
Which hardware wallets do MetaMask, Phantom, and Rabby support?
