Today, Marqeta is announcing the expansion of its platform to enable companies to make payments using a variety of non-card rails, alongside card issuing. Businesses can now pay suppliers, reimburse workers, and disburse funds to consumers at scale — using virtual cards, bank transfers, and real-time payments — without needing separate vendors for each.

A card is one of the fastest and secure ways to move money. It settles quickly, it carries rich data, and gives businesses precise control over every payment. For most platforms paying at scale, it is the preferred rail. But offering recipients a choice of how they get paid is increasingly the expectation, and should not require stitching together multiple providers.

What's new

Marqeta will be expanding the number of non-card rails it supports, including ACH, same-day ACH, push to card, and two real-time payment rails — The Clearing House's RTP network and the Federal Reserve's FedNow service. These additions round out Marqeta's global accounts and money movement offering and complement Marqeta’s recent expansion in Europe, which included adding the Faster Payments System (FPS) in the UK and SEPA rails for the European Union.

By unifying card and non-card payments on one platform, Marqeta is giving companies a comprehensive menu of options for paying businesses or consumers, without the operational overhead of managing multiple vendors.

Built for the ways businesses want to move money

These enhancements support a wide range of ways businesses pay and get paid.

Supplier payments: Card is the highest-value rail for supplier payments, but not every supplier can accept one. With card and non-card rails on the same platform, businesses can ensure every customer and supplier has access to the method that works best for them, without managing multiple providers or manually repatriating funds across banks.

Worker and contractor payouts: Gig workers, contractors, and freelancers expect to be paid quickly and on their terms. Now companies looking to pay workers faster can select from a number of instant or near instant options, including funding payouts onto a card they can spend from straightaway, pushing funds to a card the worker already has in their wallet, or via real-time bank transfers.

Consumer payouts: Whether it is a loyalty reward, a rebate, or an insurance claim, consumers expect fast access to money that is owed to them. With virtual cards for instant spend and real-time bank transfers as an alternative, platforms can meet that expectation without adding new providers for each payout type.

Employee reimbursements: Employees who front work expenses out of pocket need to be paid back quickly and simply. Platforms can offer reimbursement through whatever method works best for the employee, from real-time payment options, to more traditional options like ACH, without building and maintaining each rail as a separate integration.

Across all of these scenarios, the underlying principle is the same: enabling users with the right payment method for their needs, without incurring the costs and complexities associated with stitching together multiple vendors. Whether that is a virtual card, a real-time bank transfer, or a push to card payment, every rail lives on the same platform, with a single view of every payment from start to finish.

What's ahead

This is part of a broader, ongoing investment in commercial payment capabilities. Marqeta is building across the full spectrum of what modern payment infrastructure requires and delivering the optimization that enables its customers to scale.
