IBA Group, an international IT services provider, and Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s leading container shipping companies, celebrate 15 years of successful partnership, reflecting on their shared achievements, technological evolution, and future opportunities for collaboration.
In 2011, Hapag-Lloyd and IBA Group established a strategic partnership focused on nearshore software development and maintenance. Hapag-Lloyd selected IBA Group for its extensive expertise in technologies such as Mainframe, Java, and SAP, its ability to scale development teams, and its proven track record of successful collaboration with large enterprises in Western Europe and the United States.
Over the past 15 years, the partnership has continuously evolved, growing from small development teams into a long-term technology collaboration that spans multiple areas of Hapag-Lloyd’s IT landscape. What began with software development and maintenance, has expanded to include business requirements analysis, solution design, modernization of business-critical applications, and the development of complex enterprise solutions. Together, current and former IBA Group team members represent approximately 1,000 cumulative years of involvement in Hapag-Lloyd projects.
Today, IBA Group contributes to Hapag-Lloyd’s ongoing digital transformation across several key areas, including the modernization and further development of its Freight Information System (FIS), web application development, cloud and cloud-native technologies, and data and analytics platforms.
The technological landscape of the partnership has evolved from mainframe systems and traditional Java applications to modern Java and Jakarta EE, contemporary web technologies, cloud-native architectures, and advanced data platforms. The collaboration also increasingly embraces AI-assisted development tools and approaches, creating new opportunities to improve software engineering processes and delivery efficiency.
Looking ahead, Hapag-Lloyd and IBA Group aim to build on their established partnership by continuing to modernize critical IT systems, explore emerging technologies, and deliver innovative digital solutions that support the evolving needs of the global shipping industry.
