Frequently asked questions
Which currency should freelancers use for payments in Bulgaria?
Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, according to the European Central Bank. This guide therefore uses EUR. Agree the invoice currency with your client and compare any conversion cost if your income or expenses are in GBP.
Can a freelancer open Revolut Business in Bulgaria?
It depends on the registered legal form. Revolut's eligibility guidance includes registered sole traders, but that doesn't establish eligibility for every person working as a freelancer. Check your exact registration before applying.
Which accounts combine Bulgarian banking with cash services?
DSK Progress and UniCredit Business Leader include local bank services alongside digital payments. Their cash charges and allowances differ, so compare your expected number and value of deposits and withdrawals against the DSK Progress conditions and Business Leader package terms.
How should I compare a Bulgarian business account with a UK multi-currency account?
Start with the account holder: you personally as a registered sole trader, or your company. Then check where that person or company must be resident or registered. Compare the same monthly activity across the accounts you qualify for, including EUR receipts, GBP conversion, transfers, cards and cash transactions. A UK price list alone doesn't establish eligibility for a Bulgarian business.
