LemFi exchange rate: UK guide

Find out more about the LemFi exchange rate, where to check your quote, which fees may apply and more.

Sending money abroad with LemFi? The exchange rate affects how much your recipient receives, even when there’s no separate transfer fee.

This guide explains how the LemFi exchange rate works, how to check your quote in the app, and what to consider before sending from the UK.

We’ll also introduce Wise as a smart alternative for international transfers – with over 18.9 million people worldwide moving £52 billion each quarter.

With Wise you get low, transparent fees, mid-market exchange rates, and secure, trackable transfers, with dedicated support and volume discounts when sending large amounts. On a £50,000 transfer, you could save up to £1,000 with Wise vs your bank.

How does the LemFi exchange rate work?

According to LemFi’s UK terms, its exchange rate includes a markup on the rate it obtains from wholesale currency markets. You’re shown the rate before agreeing to the conversion.

This exchange-rate markup is separate from any transfer fee. To assess your quote, compare the offered rate with the current mid-market exchange rate for the same currencies.

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buying and selling prices of a currency. It’s a useful reference, but the rate alone won’t tell you which transfer offers better value. You’ll also need to check fees and the amount your recipient will receive.

Does LemFi charge a transfer fee?

According to LemFi’s fee guidance, many routes have no transfer fee, including transfers to Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. Fees may apply to other transfers, depending on the destination, payment method and amount.

Check the transfer summary each time you send. A £0 transfer fee doesn’t establish that a provider will deliver the highest amount for your budget.

LemFi’s UK terms also note that intermediary charges can apply to some international transfers. If your recipient needs a specific amount, consider whether any additional deductions could affect what arrives.

How to check the LemFi exchange rate

You can check the rate in the LemFi app before confirming a transfer.

View your quote in the app

Follow these steps:

  • Open the app and select “Send”, then “Send money”.
  • Enter your amount and choose the recipient’s currency.
  • Choose an available payment method and enter the recipient’s details.
  • Review the exchange rate, any fee and the quoted recipient amount before confirming.

Make sure you’re comparing the right currency pair. For example, a quote for pounds to Nigerian naira won’t tell you the rate for pounds to Ghanaian cedis.

Compare the total amount received

Get quotes from each provider using the same total spending budget, receiving currency and delivery method. Check them close together in time, as rates can change.

If you have £100 to spend altogether, compare what each provider delivers for that £100, including fees. A £100 transfer with a fee added on top has a different total cost from a £100 payment with the fee included.

Then consider the amount received alongside the delivery estimate. This is more useful than judging a transfer by its fee or exchange rate alone.

Sending money from the UK with LemFi

Setting up your account

LemFi’s registration guidance says you’ll need to provide personal details, verify your email, and complete identity checks using a valid government-issued ID and a selfie.

Follow the prompts in the app for the documents accepted in your circumstances. Allow time for verification before relying on the service for an urgent payment.

Adding money from the UK

According to LemFi’s UK funding guidance, you can add money to your account using a debit card, instant bank transfer, regular bank transfer, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

To see your options, open “Accounts” and select your GBP wallet. For a regular bank transfer, use the account details shown in the app. The sending UK bank account must be in your own name.

Funding time is separate from the time it takes to deliver money to your recipient. LemFi notes that regular bank-transfer funding can take up to 24 hours to appear. Check that your chosen payment method suits your deadline.

Supported destinations and delivery methods

LemFi’s destination guidance lists countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco and the Philippines.

Start a transfer in the app to check the destinations and delivery methods available to your account. Depending on the route, recipients can receive money into a bank account or mobile money wallet.

Confirm your recipient’s preferred method and account details before paying.

How long does a LemFi transfer take?

Delivery times vary by destination and payout method. LemFi’s country-specific guidance lists Nigeria and India as real-time routes, while Tunisia is listed at three business days. Transfers to China through Alipay can take up to three business days.

These are published estimates rather than a guarantee for every transaction. Bank processing hours, weekends, public holidays and service interruptions can affect delivery.

Check the estimate for your own payment before confirming. Include any account-verification or funding time when planning an urgent transfer.

Send international transfers without hidden fees with Wise

When you’re comparing international transfer providers, it's worth focusing on the total cost of the payment rather than any single fee. A provider that appears cheaper upfront may not always offer the best overall value.

Banks and other providers may claim to have “no fees” but they could be adding a sneaky mark-up to their exchange rate. This can **impact your budget by up to 2%** when sending money abroad. On a £50,000 transfer, you could save up to £1,000 with Wise vs your bank.

Wise has built its own payment network that allows customers to send money internationally for less. You’ll get the mid-market exchange rate (close to the one you see on Google) with **no hidden markups** and **low, transparent fees**.

FAQs

Where can I find today’s LemFi exchange rate?

Open the app and select “Send money” to check the rate for your chosen currencies. Review the quote before confirming, as the available rate can change during the day.

Is the LemFi exchange rate fixed?

It can change before you send. According to LemFi’s exchange-rate guidance, the rate shown for your transaction is the rate applied when you confirm it. Check the final details before authorising the payment.

Does a zero transfer fee mean LemFi is the cheapest option?

A zero transfer fee alone doesn’t establish that. Compare the final recipient amount for the same total budget, taking the exchange rate and any other charges into account.

Does LemFi use the mid-market exchange rate?

LemFi’s UK terms describe a markup on its wholesale currency rate. Compare the rate in your quote with a current mid-market reference for the same currencies, then check the amount received after fees.
