Impersonation scams are getting more common - and more convincing¹². Scammers may call you directly pretending to be our fraud team, and urge you to move money to a so-called “safe account”.
Their goal is simple: gain your trust quickly, then pressure you into risky choices like sharing your security details, resetting your password, or moving your money.
To help you spot these scams, Wise has launched Call Status: a new in-app banner that helps you verify in real time whether a call is genuinely from Wise.
A simple safety habit to stop the scam before it starts
Most phone scams rely on urgency and credibility. Call Status is designed to break that pattern at the very start of the call, before the scammer has the chance to build trust.
Now if someone calls you claiming they’re from Wise, you can just open the Wise app and check the banner at the top of your home screen. You’ll know instantly whether it’s really us — and if it isn’t, you can hang up straight away.
How to know if you’re speaking to Wise
When you’re on a call and signed in to the Wise app, you’ll see a real-time banner at the top of your home screen.
If you’re on a real call with Wise
You’ll see a green banner during any phone call with an official Wise agent. This is your confirmation that you’re speaking with our team.
Green banner = it’s Wise.
If Wise isn’t calling you
You’ll see a yellow banner if we can tell the call isn’t officially coming from Wise. If you see a yellow banner and the caller claims they’re Wise, hang up immediately.
Yellow banner = it’s not Wise.
Important: what Wise will never ask you to do on a call
There are other signals that you’re speaking with a scammer. Wise would never ask you to:
- Move your money to external accounts (including any “safe account”)
- Approve payments, transfers, or transactions over the phone
- Ignore scam/fraud warnings in the app
- Install remote access software like TeamViewer or AnyDesk
- Use websites or platforms that don’t belong to Wise
If a caller asks for any of the above, treat it as a scam: hang up and report it.
What to do if you already shared information
If you’ve shared sensitive information or moved money while speaking to someone pretending to be from Wise, contact us immediately via any secure route; our in-app chat, or our customer services phone lines which are available 24/7. Your account may be at risk, and the sooner we know, the more we can do to help protect you.
Ready to use Call Status?
Next time someone calls claiming they’re Wise, don’t guess. Open the app and check the banner.
In seconds, you’ll know whether it’s really us — and you can stop a scam before it starts.
