Tieto has signed an agreement to sell its Pulp, Paper and Fibre software business TIPS to Valmet. TIPS comprises Tieto Indtech’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Order‑to‑Cash solution for the pulp, paper and fibre industry. The transaction is a natural step in Tieto’s portfolio simplification, enabling Tieto Indtech to sharpen its focus on scalable businesses and their growth opportunities. The business to be divested generated altogether EUR 32 million in revenue in 2025. The divestment is expected to close during the second quarter of 2027.

“We are pleased to announce this agreement. As a leading provider of automation solutions and services to the pulp, paper and fibre industry, Valmet offers a strong strategic match and industrial fit for the business. By combining the software solutions with its existing industry expertise and customer offerings, the business will become an integral part of a broader value proposition that supports customers across their operations and production processes,” says Endre Rangnes, CEO of Tieto.

“This divestment is aligned with Tieto Indtech’s strategic direction to simplify and strengthen its portfolio, sharpen its focus on scalable software products, and accelerate growth in selected strategic areas. By further focusing our portfolio, we enhance our ability to invest in innovation, drive operational excellence, and create long-term value for customers and shareholders,” he continues.

“This acquisition is a great strategic fit for Valmet and further strengthens our leadership in automation. By connecting customer demand, planning, execution, and real-time process control, it expands our capabilities to accelerate customers’ transition towards autonomous operations. Building on Valmet's existing customer base, technology and global reach, the acquisition also creates long-term growth opportunities in process industries,” says Emilia Torttila-Miettinen, EVP, Automation Solutions business area at Valmet.

ABG Sundal Collier acted as a financial advisor, Schjødt as legal advisor and EY as due diligence advisor to Tieto in connection with the transaction.
