Programmable Voice Now Available in Mumbai

Build Voice API applications with local SIP connectivity through the Telnyx Mumbai anchorsite.

Telnyx Programmable Voice is now available in Mumbai. Developers can build Voice API applications with local SIP connectivity through the Mumbai anchorsite, completing the India voice stack Telnyx has been building since September.

What's new

  • Programmable voice in Mumbai: Build Voice API and Call Control applications with local SIP connectivity through the Mumbai anchorsite, keeping call media in-network
  • Local media anchoring: Select Mumbai, IN as the AnchorSite on SIP connections so media routes through the closest Indian point of presence
  • Complete India stack: Pair Mumbai connectivity with Indian mobile numbers in four telecom districts, English and Hindi speech models, and Inference running on the same network

Why it matters

Developers building for the Indian market previously routed media through Singapore or Sydney, adding round-trip latency to every call. Local connectivity through Mumbai keeps voice traffic on the Telnyx private backbone from the first hop, and that difference shows up directly in how responsive voice AI agents feel to callers. With Mumbai and Chennai both live, India now has two local entry points plus Indian mobile numbers, so teams can run their entire India voice stack on one platform.

Example use cases

  • Contact centers serving Indian customers anchor calls locally in Mumbai for lower media latency
  • Voice AI agents for Indian consumers run on Indian mobile numbers with in-network speech and inference
  • Enterprises with India operations consolidate SIP trunking, numbers, and AI services under one provider

Getting started

  • Buy an Indian phone number in the Mission Control Portal
  • Create a SIP connection or Call Control application
  • Set the AnchorSite to Mumbai, IN, or leave latency mode on to auto-select the optimal site
  • Start building with the Voice API
