OpenAI is holding its annual DevDay developer conference on Tuesday, where the artificial intelligence company is expected to showcase a flurry of new products and features.
This year's DevDay comes as OpenAI has been under intense pressure to address mounting safety concerns after it disclosed several incidents where its models behaved in unintended ways, and the startup held back its latest Astra model over safety concerns.
Earlier this month, the company endorsed a call to slow down the pace of advanced AI model development in order to better address the technology's risks.
The event kicks off in San Francisco at 10 a.m. PT, when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will deliver the opening keynote. Altman teased the DevDay festivities in a post on Xon Monday, writing that he is "pretty excited," and that the company has "found a new thing."
OpenAI said DevDay will be a chance for developers to "to go deep in technical sessions, test what's new, swap notes, and bring their best questions and ideas to the teams creating OpenAI's tools," according to the event's website.

OpenAI ditched plan to release upcoming model over safety concerns

OpenAI on Monday said it decided not to release an upcomingAI model, GPT-6.1 Astra, after determining that it did not adequately meet the company's safety standards.
"Of course we want to make sure our model development is safe no matter whether that's in the company, or when we ship it to users," Saachi Jain, head of safety systems at OpenAI, said in a statement. "But when we ship it to users, we have an extremely high bar in terms of safety and alignment."
Earlier this month, OpenAIreleased GPT-6 Astra, which the company described as the product of "years of research and big bets." OpenAI introduced two additional tiers to its GPT-6 family,GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, last week.
A spokesperson said Monday that the company has other models coming soon.

- 8 a.m. PT: Breakfast for attendees
- 10 a.m. PT: Opening keynote, featuring Altman
- 11:30 a.m. PT: Lunch for attendees
- 11:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. PT: Breakouts and programming for attendees
- 4:00 p.m. PT: Closing session
- 4:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. PT: Reception for attendees
