NFL prediction markets let traders take positions on what happens during the 2026-2027 season: who wins the Super Bowl, which teams take the American Football Conference and National Football Conference, which teams win their division, most valuable player, and the result of any single game. Each market is a contract priced between $0 and $1, and the price reflects the market's read on how likely the outcome is. A correct contract settles at $1; an incorrect one settles at $0.

Common types of NFL prediction markets

NFL prediction markets typically fall in 5 categories.

Individual game results: which team wins a single game. These markets can trade in the days before kickoff and resolve on game day, which makes them the shortest-lived on the board. The 2026–2027 regular season runs 272 games across 18 weeks, with each of the 32 teams playing 17 games each.

Super Bowl winner: a season-long outright on which team lifts the Lombardi Trophy. This is the headline NFL market and the last to resolve, settling on Super Bowl Sunday.

Conference winner: whether a team wins the AFC or NFC and reaches the Super Bowl. Because only 2 teams reach the final, these outrights narrow sharply through the playoff rounds.

Divisions and seeding: the winner of each of the league's 8 divisions—the AFC's East, North, South, and West, plus the NFC's four, and how clubs slot into the 7-team conference playoff bracket. Because only the top seed in each conference earns the lone opening-round bye, that number 1 spot is priced as a separate market of its own.

Player props and awards: individual, full-season markets—think MVP, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, and various single-game bets—that follow the performance of one player rather than how a team finishes.

What makes NFL prediction market pricing distinctive

Short season. Each NFL team only plays 17 regular season games, which means that every result carries far more weight than a single game in other sports (for example, every NBA team plays 82 games) , so a Week 3 upset can swing division and seeding contracts, and a single bad month can knock a favorite out of contention. Outright prices can shift dramatically, rather than drift.

Quarterback health. A team’s on-field value is heavily concentrated in its starting quarterback, so an injury to a starter can re-rate its Super Bowl, division, and seeding contracts within minutes of the news, and single-game markets move immediately when a backup is announced. The same injury report can reprice both the upcoming game and the season-long outrights.

Parity. Salary-cap rules and the "any given Sunday" nature of the league, where any team can beat any other on a given weekend, mean several teams in each conference can look like contenders at once, so Super Bowl and conference outrights often stay genuinely multi-sided deep into the season rather than compressing around one favorite. Division races frequently come down to tiebreakers in the final weeks, which keeps those contracts live.

Liquidity. Most games land in a shared Sunday window, so trading interest concentrates into a few hours a week, with prime-time and marquee matchups drawing the deepest liquidity and tightest spreads. Markets also trade in the days before kickoff and again live as games play out, so volume builds ahead of a game and spikes during it. The NFL’s broad audience pushes especially deep liquidity into its single-game and Super Bowl markets, which keeps big-game pricing sharp.

Outside conditions. Weather in outdoor stadiums can shift totals and game-result markets, a short-rest Thursday game can affect a team's price, a bye week can leave one side fresher than its opponent, and a team already locked into its seed may rest starters in Week 18, softening a game that would otherwise look one-sided.

Bottom-of-the-table incentives. The NFL sets its draft order by reverse record, so the team with the worst record picks first in the draft and there is no lottery. A team out of playoff contention therefore has reason to lose rather than win, whether for a higher pick or a shot at a franchise quarterback. That can soften late-season game-result markets for eliminated teams the same way a locked-in seed resting starters does, which makes a bad team’s Week 18 pricing less predictable than its roster alone suggests.

NFL 2026–2027 season phases in detail

The offseason. Free agency opens with the new league year on March 11, 2026, and the NFL Draft runs April 23–25, 2026 in Pittsburgh, reshaping rosters and repricing Super Bowl, division, and award outrights months before kickoff. A marquee signing or a top draft pick can move a team’s odds sharply, and rookie-award markets take their initial shape here.

Training camp and preseason. Training camps open in late July and preseason games run through August 2026, when depth charts settle and outright prices firm up. Preseason results are a noisy signal, but a training-camp injury to a key starter can re-rate a team well before the opener.

Kickoff and the early weeks. The season opens on September 9, 2026 with the Kickoff Game, the league’s traditional opener hosted by the reigning Super Bowl champion. Outright markets are live but form data is thin, so pricing is soft and swings easily on a small number of results. In a 17-game season, a 0–3 or 3–0 start moves a contract more than the same stretch would in a longer league.

International games. In 2026, the NFL will play a record 9 regular season games abroad, in Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, London (3 games), Paris, Madrid, Munich, and Mexico City. Neutral-site crowds, long travel, and unusual kickoff windows, such as London’s morning US start times, can nudge single-game markets that a normal home-or-away split would price differently.

Trade deadline. The November 10, 2026 trade deadline lands around nine games into the 17-game season, roughly the midway point, so a single day of moves can reprice contenders and sellers. With the playoff picture already forming, each move lands with more weight than an offseason signing did.

Thanksgiving and Christmas games. The Thanksgiving slate on November 26, 2026 and the Christmas Day tripleheader on December 25 (Packers–Bears, Bills–Broncos, and Rams–Seahawks) concentrate national matchups and heavy game-result volume, while the standings steadily re-rate division and seeding contracts through December.

Week 18. The final week of the regular season, on January 9–10, 2027, settles the 8 divisions and the 7-team seeding in each conference. Teams already locked into a seed may rest starters, which can reprice games that would otherwise look one-sided, and a single result can flip a division or a first-round bye.

The playoffs. From the Wild Card round through the conference championships, every round is single-elimination, so the field halves at each stage. Super Bowl and conference outrights harden toward $0 or $1, and each game moves prices sharply with no second chance to recover.

Super Bowl LXI. The title is decided in one game at SoFi Stadium on February 14, 2027, concentrating liquidity and volatility into a single window before the season’s outright markets resolve. The Super Bowl is routinely the biggest event on the prediction-market calendar: Polymarket’s Super Bowl LX champion market drew about $664 million in volume, its largest event to date, with the eventual champion, the Seattle Seahawks, trading near 19% in mid-January before the playoffs.

Reading NFL prediction markets

Every NFL prediction market contract reflects the odds of that outcome happening at any given time. Because prices run between $0 and $1, a Super Bowl market at $0.15 puts a team's title chances near 15% at that moment; a division market at $0.55 implies about a 55% chance of finishing first. For the underlying mechanics of how these prices are set and settled, see sports prediction markets.

Where and how to trade NFL prediction markets

NFL prediction markets are available on platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket. Some crypto wallets, like MetaMask, support native prediction market trading, allowing eligible users to trade event outcomes directly from the app. See our sports prediction markets explainer for how these markets trade and settle in general.

Frequently asked questions about NFL prediction markets

  • NFL prediction markets are contracts on how the NFL season plays out: the Super Bowl winner, the AFC and NFC champions, division winners, playoff seeding, awards such as MVP, and the winner of any single game, each priced between $0 and $1 to represent the outcome's implied probability. Contracts settle at $1 when correct and $0 when not, and most can be sold before they resolve.

  • Quarterback injuries are among the strongest price drivers in the sport. Because a team's value is so concentrated at the position, a starter being ruled out can move that week's game market within minutes and rerate the team's Super Bowl, division, and seeding contracts well before the standings change.
