MediaTek and Ericsson Achieve World’s First Successful Multi-vendor Pre-6G Joint Field Trial with T-Mobile US

HSINCHU, Taiwan – November 2, 2026 – MediaTek and Ericsson today announced the successful completion of the world’s first multi-vendor pre-6G over-the-air (OTA) connection utilizing 400 MHz channel bandwidth, demonstrating the potential to achieve peak download speeds of more than 5Gbps and…

HSINCHU, Taiwan – November 2, 2026 – MediaTek and Ericsson today announced the successful completion of the world’s first multi-vendor pre-6G over-the-air (OTA) connection utilizing 400 MHz channel bandwidth, demonstrating the potential to achieve peak download speeds of more than 5Gbps and upload speeds of more than 2Gbps. Conducted in September at the T-Mobile 6G Innovation Hub in Bellevue, Washington, this historic milestone shows that the 6G vision is transitioning from single-vendor laboratory concepts to an interoperable, multi-vendor 6G ecosystem operating under realworld conditions.

The trial also achieved ultra-low end-to-end latency as low as 4 milliseconds, with the potential to unlock revolutionary applications such as physical AI, real-time XR/AR communications, and instantresponse connected devices that will define how people live, work, and connect in the 6G era.

Industry Leadership and Collaborative Vision

This achievement marks the first time a leading service provider, leading network infrastructure provider and a leading chipset vendor have come together to demonstrate pre-6G technology with 400MHz channel bandwidth under realistic conditions in the field. By combining MediaTek’s pre-6G User Equipment (UE) Proof-of-Concept (PoC) platform and Ericsson’s advanced pre-6G radio infrastructure over T-Mobile's network as part of its 6G Innovation Hub efforts, the partners have validated that the ecosystem is aligning to make next-generation connectivity a commercial reality.

"The success of this trial signifies a historic achievement with T-Mobile and Ericsson, highlighting that device technology is keeping pace with innovation in connectivity," said Dr. Mingxi Fan, Corporate Vice President at MediaTek. "In working closely together, we’re showing that the entire ecosystem, from chipsets to networks, aligns to make 6G a reality for everyone, and proving that seamless interoperability between silicon and network infrastructure is essential to accelerating 6G commercialization."

What Sets This Milestone Apart

The collaborative pre-6G joint demonstration opens a new era of connectivity for consumers and enterprises:

  • World’s First Joint Multivendor Pre-6G Trial – While initial pre-6G trials have typically relied on closed, single-vendor proprietary setups, this achievement demonstrates live OTA between Ericsson's pre-6G radio infrastructure and MediaTek's pre-6G UE PoC platform. This collaborative validation is an essential prerequisite to driving 6G ecosystem readiness, thus supporting the path toward 6G commercial deployment.
  • 6G Spectrum Allocation with Wider Block – The trial uses a 400 MHz contiguous spectrum block. The wide spectrum block in the 6G era will provide the capacity and coverage foundation required for future 6G services and validates the spectrum planning strategy that will underpin commercial 6G roll-outs.
  • Enhanced Latency – By achieving sub-5ms latency, the demonstration proves that real-time AI inference, holographic communications, autonomous vehicle control, and other breakthrough 6G use cases can operate with an instantaneous responsiveness.
  • Enhanced Uplink – With 200MHz UL channel bandwidth, 6G delivers a massive boost in uplink experience, ensuring the network is ready for anticipated 6G era AI-driven traffic surge to support AI-Native smartphone, AI/AR smart glasses, autonomous vehicles, physical AI and other 6G applications and devices.

The demonstration serves as a showcase of how T-Mobile is a leader in the path to 6G globally in validating 6G technologies at scale and shaping how they are deployed commercially.

“Customers judge a network by how it feels, and 6G will raise that bar,” said Ankur Kapoor, Chief Network Officer at T-Mobile. “Together with Ericsson and MediaTek, we’re leaders in the industry from 6G vision to reality – proving multi-vendor pre-6G technology on our own network today, so the experience is ready long before it reaches customers’ hands.”

Infrastructure and Device Ready for Tomorrow

Ericsson provided the pre-6G radio infrastructure that made this milestone possible, demonstrating that network equipment is capable of supporting tomorrow's wireless demands.

“Working with MediaTek and T-Mobile, we validated pre-6G performance so that end users can benefit as soon as 6G takes off,” said Johan Hultell, Head of Networks Strategy and Product Management at Ericsson. “This joint demonstration shows how Ericsson technology can enable AInative networks with greater uplink capacity and low latency – opening a new era of connectivity. It marks the start of our journey, together with our ecosystem partners, toward commercial 6G.”

MediaTek's pre-6G UE PoC platform demonstrated that devices can support the unprecedented 400MHz bandwidth DL and 200MHz UL, aligning with 3GPP RAN Plenary direction on 6G device capability.
