How the Watsons sold in California and bought in Colorado with Opendoor

The Watsons had been in their Temecula, California home for 15 years. With their youngest daughter finishing high school, they started thinking about what came after that.

“We’re excited, our youngest is graduating high school, and it’s time for our next chapter,” they said.

Colorado came first. The couple drove up to look around, without a plan yet for the house they still owned in California.

“So we decided to head up to Colorado, take a look at some houses, and see what made sense for us,” the Watsons said. “And it turns out, we fell in love with an Opendoor house.”

The home they picked, in Timnath, was one Opendoor already owned. That settled the buying side. They still owned the house in California, and they needed to sell it.

“We found out that Opendoor buys houses as well,” they said, and requested an offer online.

“They came back with an offer that was really far better than we ever expected, so we took it,” they said.

“When we started thinking about selling our house, we came up with a long list,” they recalled. “We’ve been here for 15 years, we wanted it to be perfect. Opendoor just eliminated all that, and we got to focus on the next chapter.”

Opendoor Home Loans wrote the mortgage on the Colorado house, which meant the sale, the purchase, and the loan all sat with one company.

“Opendoor also does mortgages, so they offered us this incredibly low rate,” they said. “We took it, and we couldn’t have done better.”

Title and escrow ran through OS National, the Opendoor title and escrow company, on both sides.

“It was so easy, everything was seamless,” they said. “We were able to sell our house, buy a house, get it mortgaged, all within a few weeks.”

They closed on the Colorado home in late March and their California sale funded about three weeks later.
