Art Blocks Marfa Weekend kicks off next week in West Texas

Art Blocks, an OpenSea partner, will host its 6th annual Marfa Weekend Oct. 22 to 25 in Marfa, Texas.

On Saturday morning, the Chinati Foundation and Art Blocks will host a sunrise viewing of Donald Judd's 15 untitled works in concrete. Later that morning, a panel at the Crowley Theater centered on ABX, Art Blocks' onchain publishing stack, will look at what it means to publish work that outlives a platform. Panelists include Ryley of Art Blocks, artist dadabots and Han Saglam (hanrgb), moderated by Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon.

The Artist Fair continues Saturday at Saint George Hall, followed by Art Blocks' annual backyard cookout. The weekend closes with a farewell breakfast on Sunday. You can view the schedule here.

Ledger unveils Atom, a phone-style device with a separate Secure Mode

Hardware wallet maker Ledger unveiled Ledger Atom at its Ledger Op3n event in Paris on Oct. 15, with Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier presenting the device, according to Ledger's post on X. Ledger describes Atom as its first device with everyday apps and 5G connectivity built in. It switches to Secure Mode whenever a user interacts with their private keys.

Atom runs Android alongside Ledger OS, and transactions are reviewed and signed in Secure Mode, separate from everyday apps, The Block reported. A limited Founders Edition costs $849, with a $100 refundable deposit to reserve one, and deliveries are expected to begin in summer 2027, pending certification. Solana Mobile said its Seeker app is also coming to Atom. Ledger said app availability depends on certifications and licenses and will be confirmed before devices ship.

The launch follows Ledger's investigation into hardware wallets fitted with an unauthorized implant and sold through a reseller in Southeast Asia. Ledger asked resellers and distributors in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong to suspend sales while it investigates, Decrypt reported. Onchain researchers have traced more than $86 million in suspected losses, a figure Ledger says it has not verified. Ledger told CoinDesk that Atom includes tamper-detection protections designed to block this type of implant, and that it will initially sell the device only through its own website.

Mastercard and BVNK launch a platform for holding fiat and stablecoins side by side

Mastercard and BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure company Mastercard acquired in August, launched the Global Money Platform on Oct. 15, according to a press release. It is the first major integration of Mastercard and BVNK capabilities since the acquisition.

The platform lets banks, fintechs and enterprises embed multi-currency accounts where fiat and stablecoins sit together, with conversion between them handled through a single API. Users will be able to spend stablecoin balances across Mastercard's merchant network and send local-currency payouts through Mastercard Move. Payments firm Nuvei and card-issuing platform Marqeta are among the first companies to integrate the platform.

Mastercard said the platform will add future support for agentic commerce and tokenized deposits. The Global Money Platform is available now through BVNK.

Blur to retire its website and stop new Blend loans on Nov. 12

Blur, an NFT marketplace on Ethereum, said its blur.io frontend will be deprecated on Nov. 12, according to an announcement on X. Blur said the change applies only to the website. The Blur marketplace protocol will remain operational onchain, and $BLUR will continue to control its fee switch.

Blend, Blur's NFT lending platform, will stop matching new loans on the same date. Borrowers have until then to repay their loans or allow them to default, and Blur said it will provide a frontend tool afterward to help users withdraw their assets from Blend.

Blur also warned users to watch for impersonators and fraudulent announcements, noting that its only official account is @blur_io.
