WhatsApp Business Calling now supports inbound call routing for Bring Your Own Number (BYON) users. Businesses using their own phone numbers with WhatsApp can now route inbound WhatsApp voice calls to any SIP Connection in their account, directly from the Telnyx Portal.

What's new

Inbound calls on BYON numbers: Receive WhatsApp voice calls on numbers you already own, not just Telnyx-provisioned numbers. Calls route to your PBX, AI agent, or Call Control app just like any Telnyx number.
SIP Connection selection in Mission Control: A dropdown on the WhatsApp Calling tab lets you select (or clear) the SIP Connection that handles inbound calls for each number.
Country-specific warnings: Numbers in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico show a warning about a known Meta number formatting issue that may affect call delivery, so you know about potential issues before configuring routing.

Why it matters

Until now, inbound WhatsApp calls to non-Telnyx numbers would fail. Businesses that brought their own numbers to WhatsApp through BYON had no way to receive voice calls through their existing voice infrastructure. That meant either missing inbound WhatsApp voice traffic entirely or migrating numbers to Telnyx. With this release, BYON numbers work the same way as Telnyx numbers for inbound calling, so businesses keep their existing numbers and still get full WhatsApp voice capabilities through the Telnyx platform.
