We’re building Copilot as a new OS for work that spans every model, every form factor, and every task. Today, we’re announcing our biggest update to Copilot to date, bringing four things together: • Autopilot: proactive and long-running agent built for the enterprise • Code: build apps with Copilot, hosted inside your company’s tenant • Home: Chat + Cowork together • Office: now fully embedded in Copilot (and Copilot embedded in Office, of course!) Plus, you can invoke Copilot in Teams, and we’re introducing Today, a proactive experience that surfaces the most important information from across M365 without needing to ask for it. The interesting shift is from AI that answers questions to AI that proactively brings the right information into the workflow. When it can also help execute the work, AI becomes part of the process rather than just another tool. 💯

The bigger shift here is not just better AI, it is AI moving from “help me think” to “help me do.” That changes the skills companies will value, because people who can direct, evaluate, and work alongside these systems will have a real advantage. Satya Nadella and team, Windows XP is Microsoft's greatest product-Proof, 25 years later enterprises still keep it alive behind VPNs and isolated networks because ripping it out is riskier than protecting it. Windows ME went the other way, rushed out and dead within a year. My hope for Copilot OS, it was built in collab by the people who made XP with their wisdom on how to build a product that outlives its EoL and people who build ME with their wisdom of how not to make that mistake.

The Autopilot follow-ups caught my attention. I’m curious whether it can tell when not to send one. Sometimes a perfectly accurate reminder is still the wrong message for that relationship.

Huge step toward a holistic and all-encompassing AI platform that sees what you see and co-works with you within your entire business scope...and now the GitHub integration. This is fantastic news for any company using the Microsoft cloud or office apps.

Autopilot is the piece I'd watch closest. Having led Copilot and agentic AI initiatives at Saputo, I found the value rarely got stuck in chat. It got stuck wherever we asked the tool to act on its own and nobody had pinned down what "done" meant for that work. A long-running agent makes that brief the real product. 🎯

Costs transparency please. Im guessing... - Code - is consumption charged. - Autopilot - is consumption charged. We know Cowork is consumption charged, and so is Studio, Github, and Foundry. Also, if a company isn't ready for Code, does admin have control to turn on or off capabilities and visibility of Code and Autopilot?

Satya, framing Copilot as a new operating system for work is a meaningful step, because the center of gravity is clearly moving from assistance to agentic execution. Microsoft is already building toward that future through Work IQ, Cowork, Scout, Agent 365, Entra, Purview, and multi-model orchestration. Microsoft now describes agents as active participants in work, with persistent identities, permissions, organizational context, and the ability to execute multi-step tasks across systems. From the Roots Informatics perspective, the opportunity is to add something complementary: an independent governance layer between Copilot’s intelligence and consequential execution. That matters because the more Copilot becomes an operating system for work, the more it will interact with systems that sit outside Microsoft’s own trust boundary—government databases, hospital systems, financial infrastructure, external APIs, robotics, sovereign data environments, partner clouds, and other model ecosystems.
