Urdu and Odia Voices Now Available on Telnyx Ultra

Telnyx Ultra now supports Urdu and Odia natively, adding seven Urdu and eight Odia voices to the Ultra catalog, live in production today. Existing integrations pick them up from the voice catalog with no code changes.

What's new

• 7 new Urdu voices: Nida, Sana, Zara, Aryan, Danish, Imran, and Saqib are live in the voice catalog. Select them with the Telnyx.Ultra.<voice_id> format, for example Telnyx.Ultra.47651485-d776-4cc9-872f-e2c28120b7fb (Sana, Organized Assistant).
• 8 new Odia voices: Disha, Geeta, Rian, Smruti, Akash, Alok, Debashish, and Sarthak round out the catalog in the same feminine and masculine range, in the official language of Odisha.
• No new integration: Urdu and Odia voices run on the same Ultra synthesis engine as every other supported language. Pass Urdu or Odia script text directly; the voices read native script without a language hint or per-language configuration.
• Live across voice surfaces: Use the new voices in Voice AI Assistants (Mission Control voice picker), the TTS API (POST /v2/text-to-speech/speech), Call Control speak and gather_using_speak, and TeXML <Say>.

Why it matters

• Urdu has 246 million speakers (10th most spoken language, per Ethnologue) and Odia another 37 to 50 million, but most TTS catalogs offer thin or no coverage for either, which forced teams into a separate vendor per language or robotic translated speech.
• Voice agents serving Pakistan and Odisha now run on one platform: telephony, STT, TTS, and agent orchestration in one system, instead of bolting a third-party synthesis vendor onto the call path.
• The new voices ride the September Ultra upgrade, so they ship with the same naturalness, prosody, and latency profile as the English and European voices teams already use, with no per-language tuning.

• Support and banking teams serving Pakistani callers in native Urdu: verification codes, order status, and payment confirmations read back correctly.
• Government and telecom IVR serving Odisha in Odia, the state's official language.
• Voice AI products for South Asian markets that need native-script synthesis rather than transliterated text.

Getting started

• In Mission Control, navigate to AI, then Assistants, then select your assistant.
• Open the Voice tab.
• Choose a Telnyx Ultra voice with an Urdu or Odia name from the voice picker.
• Save the assistant and test with real caller audio before routing production traffic.

For API-based call flows, pass an Urdu voice to POST /v2/text-to-speech/speech. The voice reads Urdu or Odia script directly, no language parameter required. Example REST request:
