As part of our CMR 3.0 journey, we wanted to share an update on two of CMR’s co-founders, Mark Slack and Luke Hares.
Mark Slack, our Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder, will move into the role of Clinical Ambassador and Surgical Advisor to the CEO.
Mark has led the clinical development of Versius through first-in-human studies, clinical evaluation, regulatory approval and implementation, supporting FDA clearance and the first clinical cases in the United States. Throughout this work, he has maintained a clear focus on patient safety, including through the development and deployment of our clinical registry.
Mark also built CMR’s global Professional Education programmes and Clinical teams, establishing capabilities that have become central to the successful adoption of Versius worldwide. The programme has been recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is regarded internationally as a benchmark for robotic surgical training.
Mark’s leadership, vision and commitment have made a significant contribution to CMR’s growth and success. He will continue to work closely with the company, providing strategic clinical advice and helping to shape the next phase of CMR’s clinical and educational strategy.
Luke Hares, Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder, will transition into a technical and strategic advisory role, supporting Chris Fryer, CMR’s Chief Technology Officer, the Technology team and the wider organisation.
Luke will continue to lead key innovation and research projects as we advance the next iterations of Versius and explore new opportunities for the future. He will contribute to discussions around the future development of CMR and Versius, helping to ensure that innovation remains aligned with our product strategy and long-term vision.
As CTO, Luke built, developed and led our Technology team, which now includes more than 150 engineers and specialists. He is especially proud of the work delivered across the company through the Versius 1.5 programme, which led to Versius Plus and demonstrated the potential of the Versius architecture.
We look forward to continuing to work alongside Luke and Mark in their new advisory roles as we develop CMR and Versius as an intelligent soft-tissue surgical robotics platform.
