Enterprise leaders are driven to scale up implementation of agentic AI across their organizations. This drive is creating new challenges for agent development, deployment, governance, and security.
To capitalize on the full potential of agentic AI, enterprises need to quickly expand from small, isolated individual agents to fleets of agents that can be deployed across several areas of the business. These newly created agents must be able to access multiple resources, including outside services and enterprise data. Providing that access makes it more difficult for teams to monitor and secure the agents.
Google Cloud is helping to address these challenges with the Google Cloud Agent Gateway, which enables enterprises to centrally manage and control their expanding agentic AI fleets. Using Agent Gateway, organizations have a single point for applying policies and leveraging additional services for agents. They no longer have to develop and manage each individual agent independently. This approach makes scaling agentic AI much more feasible.
To enhance control and security, enterprises can pair Agent Gateway with AI security capabilities from F5.
Building a scalable agentic AI architecture
Instead of forcing security down into the agent application layer, Google and F5 are raising security up to the control and data planes.
Agent Gateway provides programmable traffic control. It centralizes management of agentic traffic, supporting connectivity across user-to-agent, agent-to-agent, and agent-to-tool traffic. With Agent Gateway, platform and security teams have a programmable location for applying consistent policies, monitoring activity, and integrating with additional security services.
Google Cloud Agent Gateway will send requests to F5 AI Guardrails extension for AI prompt inspection, highlighting the integration of the two products. Once the prompt has been inspected, the request is sent back to Agent Gateway, which then forwards the request to its correct destination.
F5 provides the active security engine. Through native integration, F5 AI Guardrails sits alongside the Agent Gateway data path. As the gateway routes traffic, AI Guardrails actively inspects incoming requests and outgoing agent responses in real time.
The F5 extension scans for malicious intent (such as prompt injections and model hijacking), and it monitors tool and API actions to ensure agents don’t execute unauthorized commands on backend systems. At the same time, it blocks unauthorized sensitive data (such as personally identifiable information (PII), credit card information, or proprietary IP) from crossing boundaries.
Pairing centralized routing from Google Cloud with deep inspection capabilities from F5 enables enterprises to scale up agentic AI with greater efficiency and confidence. They can manage hundreds or thousands of agents without adding excessive complexity or jeopardizing security
Delivering strategic benefits
The integration of Agent Gateway with AI Guardrails will enable enterprises to achieve key strategic benefits. For example, enterprises will be able to accelerate time to market for new agents. Developers no longer need to write custom validation scripts or hardcode static security logic into AI applications. Instead, new agents instantly inherit the company’s active security posture.
That security posture will be consistent across all agents. Enterprises can eliminate the highly fragmented security silos that are created when different business units use distinct custom validation frameworks. As a result, enterprises can avoid policy drift across cloud and on-premises agent deployments.
Enterprises can handle their rapidly scaling fleet of AI agents without having to expand security teams. Securing hundreds of agents individually is unrealistic. But with Google Cloud and F5 AI Guardrails integration, teams can centralize their work. They have a single pane of glass for auditing, observing, and reporting on “vibe” checks, threat patterns, and safety metrics for all agent traffic.
Scaling up efficiently and securely
As enterprises move forward with scaling up agentic AI, Google Cloud Agent Gateway and F5 AI Guardrails can help simultaneously accelerate development and deployment of agents, while establishing consistent governance and strong security. The integration and centralization of functions enables teams to retain visibility and control as they build their agentic enterprise.
