Discover why QNX is recognized as a leader in the software-defined vehicle ecosystem, powering safe, secure, and scalable automotive software.

September 25, 2026

The software-defined vehicle (SDV) era is transforming the automotive industry shifting value from hardware to software, and from static features to continuously evolving digital experiences. As vehicles become more complex, automakers need a trusted, scalable foundation that can bring together safety, performance, and software agility.

That is why QNX’s recognition as a leader in the 2026 Software-Defined Vehicle Software Ecosystem Index from Counterpoint Research is so significant.

Counterpoint Research’s 2026 SDV Software Ecosystem Index examines how companies in the SDV market segment position their products and services, identifying the types of solutions companies offer that support SDV functionality. This includes solutions that help the industry accelerate development cycles, provide a safe and secure software foundation for vehicles with mixed-criticality systems, and enable long-term support for lengthening automotive software lifecycles.

Counterpoint evaluated thirty companies that provide automotive in-vehicle software and related tools for different aspects of SDVs, including QNX, which provides several solutions that support SDV functionality

A foundation built for SDV complexity

Modern vehicles must support mixed-criticality workloads across centralized and zonal architectures, combining real-time safety systems with rich user experiences, cloud connectivity, and continuous software updates.

QNX addresses this challenge with a comprehensive, product-led portfolio that spans:

  • Safety-certified real-time operating systems,
  • Hypervisor-based mixed-criticality enablement,
  • Cloud-based development through QNX Cabin
  • Software-defined platforms, including audio and cockpit innovation
  • Alloy Kore, a pre-integrated foundational vehicle software platform developed with Vector Informatik

Together, these capabilities help automakers reduce integration complexity, accelerate development, and build scalable software platforms that last for the full vehicle lifecycle.

“Automakers should not have to choose between performance and safety, or between innovation today and scalability tomorrow. QNX gives them the foundation to achieve all four and more. This recognition reflects the trust we have earned and our growing role in helping the industry deliver the software-defined vehicle at scale,” said Grant Courville, Senior Vice President, Product & Strategy, QNX.

Enabling speed without compromising safety

The transition to SDVs is not just about speed. It’s about delivering innovation without compromising safety and security.

QNX’s microkernel architecture, safety certifications (including ISO 26262 ASIL-D), and robust security foundations are designed for environments where failure is not an option. At the same time, its support for virtualization, containers, and modern development workflows enables automakers to move faster and adopt cloud-native practices.

With Alloy Kore, QNX also simplifies one of the biggest challenges in SDV development: integration. By providing a pre-integrated, safety-certified platform, it allows OEMs to focus on differentiation rather than infrastructure.

“As vehicles become more software-defined, having a proven, integrated foundation is critical. Platforms like QNX and Alloy Kore help us accelerate development while maintaining the highest safety standards,” said Greg Basich, Associate Director, Automotive Software, Counterpoint Research.

Driving the next phase of software-defined mobility

QNX’s leadership reflects more than product breadth. It highlights its role across the broader SDV ecosystem. From industry partnerships and cloud-based development to deployment in hundreds of millions of vehicles, QNX is helping to shape the future of automotive software.

As the industry moves toward continuous innovation, OTA updates, and AI-driven experiences, one thing is clear: the software foundation matters more than ever.

QNX is helping define that foundation.
