The OSRA is pleased to announce that the Open Robotics Technology Strategy for 2026 has been published.

The OSRA's technology strategy defines the long-term aspirational goals that all OSRA projects strive for, and specific strategic priorities that the projects are focusing on in 2026. The aspirational goals capture what we believe our users most need from the software and services we provide, while the strategic priorities give guidance to our projects and contributors.
This technology strategy was formulated by the the Technical Governance Committee (TGC), with particular input by the project leaders and representatives. It is based on the needs of robotics professionals. It takes into account current trends in robotics in general, and in the projects specifically.
If you are looking to make a contribution to one of the OSRA's projects, this technology strategy will give you guidance on where the most valuable contributions lie.
Geoffrey Biggs
Geoffrey Biggs is the CTO at the Open Source Robotics Foundation, where he leads the technical efforts of the OSRF, including both the open-source projects themselves (at an abstract level) and the work the OSRF performs to support those projects. Previously, he was a software engineer at Open Source Robotics Corporation, where he worked mainly on ROS and Open-RMF. Geoff has more than 20 years of experience working with and on open-source software, beginning with the Player Project. He is constantly looking for ways to convince the world that formal methods are great.
