PwC is undergoing a multi-year transformation of its global assurance business to reimagine how the audit is executed and experienced. Over the past year, the firm has expanded its Assurance AI capabilities to transform the end-to-end audit experience—delivering enhanced value, quality, and a focus on the risks that matter.
Today, AI is helping with a growing set of routine tasks, and it’s changing how audits are performed across the audit lifecycle, reducing manual effort and allowing auditors to spend more time on client interactions and matters requiring professional judgement and human experience. This is not about doing the same audit faster. It’s about enhancing value, including more timely insights and risk assessment, ability to identify and respond to emerging or changing risks, better coordination among teams, and a more streamlined process.
That transformation is increasingly taking shape in the day-to-day work of our audit teams. Across the audit lifecycle, from planning and risk assessment to testing and audit committee communications, we’re putting AI into the hands of our people to help them work differently, focus their attention where it matters most, and deliver an enhanced audit experience. Here are some of the AI-enabled accelerators bringing that transformation to life in 2026 year-end audits. And while they address distinct parts of the audit today, each will ultimately become part of PwC’s connected, AI-native global audit platform.
Simplified Audit – Planning
Simplified Audit – Planning helps AICPA engagement teams prepare and document an effective audit plan by carrying forward prior-year knowledge. Rather than spending time reestablishing a baseline, auditors can focus their conversations on what has changed. The accelerator highlights changes in planning requirements, develops a risk-focused agenda identifying where additional information is needed, and produces a streamlined memo. Together, these capabilities help teams bring a stronger understanding of the business into planning discussions and focus attention on areas that warrant closer consideration.
Advanced Walkthrough Assistant
Advanced Walkthrough Assistant brings a tailored approach to preparing for and documenting business process walkthroughs. Drawing on a business’s systems, past narratives, and control matrices, the accelerator generates draft walkthrough materials and surfaces potential questions. It also captures transcripts, flags potential gaps, maps controls, and assembles documentation—including narratives, flowcharts, and a playback summary. This support helps auditors enter walkthrough discussions better prepared, reduce repeat questions, and spend more time discussing potential changes or issues.
Simplified Audit – Execute
Simplified Audit – Execute uses AI to assist with reviewing supporting documentation and completing sampling-testing templates across substantive testing areas. The accelerator reads supporting documents in real time, flags missing information or potential mismatches, and generates an initial draft of testing results that is organized and traceable to source evidence. This significantly reduces the manual review and documentation of hundreds of pieces of support materials, allowing auditors to focus on more judgmental areas.
Asset & Wealth Management Audit Innovation Hub
The Asset & Wealth Management Audit Innovation Hub assists with the preparation, execution, and documentation of selected audit procedures for non-public Asset & Wealth Management clients, including complex management-fee testing, financial highlights, and capital-allocation testing. Its AI-enabled capabilities help automate reconciliations and ingest fund data, while producing clear, traceable fee calculations that support complex arrangements and allocations.
Audit Committee Report Analyzer
Audit Committee Report Analyzer supports the review and analysis of audit committee communications to surface potential issues sooner, drive consistency across teams, and reduce late-stage review comments. It compares uploaded content with curated PwC and regulatory guidance and identifies potentially missing required communications, template deviations, and inconsistencies. Detailed results help engagement teams surface potential issues sooner and provide more consistent communications with audit committees earlier in the preparation cycle.
Scoping & Risk Assistant
Scoping & Risk Assistant (SARA) provides a guided experience through scoping and risk assessment to accelerate and support engagement-team judgments related to account disaggregation, inherent-risk assessment, significant-account scoping, and relevant assertions. It generates risk assessments based on client-specific facts and circumstances and helps teams evaluate relevant assertions—the foundation for identifying likely sources of potential misstatement. SARA also produces risk-assessment documentation with the underlying rationale, supporting review as teams develop the audit plan. These capabilities help auditors work through a critical phase of the audit more efficiently and direct their attention to high-risk areas.
Advanced Control Testing
Advanced Control Testing (ACT) helps engagement teams test transaction-level controls for PCAOB and AICPA engagements. Using uploaded evidence, ACT extracts control characteristics and drafts initial documentation to enhance efficiency and support audit quality, allowing teams to focus more on judgmental areas of the audit and less on manual data entry.
Simplified Audit – Financial Statement Tie-out
Simplified Audit – Financial Services Tie-out supports financial statement tie-out procedures by bringing the financial statement and footnote tie-out process into one connected experience for AICPA audit engagements. Using AI-assisted functionality, it helps organize, compare, and map information so teams can efficiently evaluate reported balances and disclosures against underlying support. By automating data ingestion, streamlining documentation, and helping teams identify potential variances and inconsistencies earlier, this tool supports audit quality and streamlines the audit experience for our people and clients.
A human-led, tech-powered approach
The progress we’ve made over the past year is significant, but we’re still early in what AI can make possible for the audit. As these capabilities become more connected and embedded across the audit lifecycle, the opportunity is not simply to make individual tasks more efficient. It’s to continue reimagining the audit experience for our people and our clients, with technology taking on more of the manual work and helping our auditors focus their time and experience where they can have the greatest impact.
That evolution will remain distinctly human-led. Professional skepticism, industry experience, and human accountability are fundamental to audit quality, and every judgment, conclusion, and sign-off remains with our professionals. As we continue investing in AI and our people, we’ll keep advancing that transformation responsibly, with the rigorous governance and unwavering commitment to independence, quality, and trust that the audit demands.
