Singapore, 14 September 2026 – Grab announced today that it will be expanding its autonomous vehicle (AV) fleet by fivefold – from 10 to 50 vehicles – over the next six months. Working with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Land Transport Authority (LTA), Grab will also broaden its AV service coverage within Punggol. With this larger fleet, Grab aims to expand further beyond Punggol to other locations in Singapore, following regulatory approvals. Through these efforts, Grab seeks to enhance connectivity for everyday commuters.

The expansion follows strong performance from Grab’s initial fleet of 10 WeRide GXRs – with proven fully autonomous operations in China and the Middle East. Following thousands of rigorous test runs, LTA approved Grab and WeRide for Community Rides for AV shuttle service in Punggol in January 2026. This was followed by Public Rides service in April 2026.
The AV fleet has logged over 110,000 kilometres of autonomous mileage on Singapore’s roads, and served more than 12,000 unique riders – 99% of whom would recommend the service. With over 1,000 people on a waitlist for new AV experiences (Click here to join the wait list), and passenger demand for more locations, direct routes, and flexible booking options, Grab, with LTA’s support, is preparing to launch an on-demand, point-to-point service across select Punggol locations, with more service points rolling out in the months ahead.
Strengthening infrastructure and workforce capabilities
Grab is investing in dedicated AV infrastructure, such as working together with government agencies in setting up an AV depot in Punggol.
To develop the local talent pool, Grab’s training arm – GrabAcademy (a Skills & Workforce Development Agency Registered Training Provider) – and WeRide have developed structured pathways, enabling interested driver and delivery partners to upskill into new AV roles. To date, GrabAcademy and WeRide have certified 30 Safety Operators. Amongst them, six have also been certified as Remote Operators, and a few have further advanced into supervisory and trainer roles. Grab is also nurturing talents for the emerging industry in areas such as design, engineering, and operations. Hundreds of new AV roles will be created for the local workforce as Grab explores opportunities to establish Singapore as its regional centre of excellence for AV localisation and deployment.
To ensure that the public is prepared for new AV experiences, Grab will continue with rigorous onground AV education and engagement initiatives in the coming months.
Advancing hybrid mobility across Southeast Asia
Grab is executing on its Hybrid Mobility Strategy – a dual-pillar model where AVs and human drivers complement each other to optimise urban mobility. As demand for point-to-point rides rises, AVs help sustainably increase network capacity to serve more Singaporeans.
Meanwhile, Grab continues to double down on a range of initiatives to strengthen its driver network. This includes strategic partnerships to expand and electrify its fleet under GrabRentals and GrabCab. It is also supporting the purchasing of vehicles through its recently launched Car Marketplace.
As Singapore’s AV market matures, Grab will optimise its platform to enable trips on both AV and human driver fleets, optimising dispatch efficiency, improving fulfillment rates, and reducing wait times for commuters.
Scaling to 50 vehicles is a key stepping stone for Grab’s goal to responsibly deploy thousands of AVs across Southeast Asia by 2030. Grab’s deep local roots and hyper-local understanding enable it to adapt cutting-edge technologies to the region’s unique urban landscapes. By developing a range of AV capabilities, spanning demand integration to fleet management, Grab aims to thoughtfully shape the future of mobility for the region alongside regulators, technology partners, and local communities.
